I love client success stories because they remind me that most people don’t have a money problem…

They have a systems problem.

Let me introduce you to a client — we’ll call her Riley.

Riley is a successful real estate agent. She’s been in business for six years and earns great income.

From the outside, everything looked solid.

But behind the scenes?

She felt constant, low-level stress about money.

Here’s What Was Really Going On

Like many commission-based professionals, Riley was running her entire business through her personal account.

Her commission checks were made out to her directly. She’d pay business expenses as they came up and sort it all out at tax time.

And while that worked…it created a lot of friction:

• It was difficult to track expenses come tax time
• She had no clear separation between personal and business money
• She didn’t know how much she could safely spend
• When her checking got low, she’d pull from savings to cover it
• She wasn’t saving for taxes consistently
• She wasn’t investing for retirement at all

Even though she was doing well, she always had this underlying fear:

“What if I run out of money?”

That kind of uncertainty is exhausting.

The First Step: Create Structure

I encouraged Riley to talk with her CPA about forming an LLC.

He agreed it made sense.

So she set one up, got an EIN, and opened:

• A business checking account
• A business credit card

This alone created a clear line between her business and personal finances.

But the real transformation came from what we did next.

How We Fixed It

We created a simple system for her business cash flow.

Now, all commission checks go into her business checking account.

From there, the money is intentionally divided:

• A percentage stays in the business account for operating expenses (marketing, software, fees, etc.)
• A percentage goes into a tax account so quarterly taxes are covered
• A percentage goes into an owner’s comp account — her future paycheck

This changed everything.

Now, instead of wondering what she could afford…

She could clearly see it.

She knew how much she could pay herself.
She knew how much to set aside for taxes.
And most importantly, she could see how many months of runway she had.

Then We Organized Her Personal Finances

Next, we built out her Plan Ahead Method budget.

We separated her money into:

• Fixed expenses (bills)
• Variable spending (guilt-free spending money)
• Savings buckets (for upcoming and future expenses)

We customized her savings buckets around her real life and goals:

• Emergency fund
• Travel
• Shopping
• Home repairs

Now, instead of being surprised by expenses…

She was prepared for them.

Finally, We Built Her Future

Once her system created margin and clarity, we layered in investing.

Riley is now:

• Contributing to a Roth IRA
• Funding a Solo 401(k)

For the first time, she’s not just making money…

She’s building wealth.

The Result

Riley didn’t need to make more money.

She needed a system.

Now she has:

• Clear visibility into her finances
• Consistent pay
• Money set aside for taxes
• Savings for future expenses
• A plan for retirement

And most importantly…

Peace of mind.

She can see months ahead where her money is, where it’s going, and why.

If you see yourself in Riley’s story — especially if you have variable income — this is your reminder:

You don’t need more hustle.

You need a system that supports the life you’re building.
